CH1 Graphing Functions


My graphing function that I chose was f(x)= |x|. I started out by graphing my function in black to identify it as my original function. Opening upward, this function starts at the origin, (0,0) , of the graph. To start off, this function can have many types of transformations. The first transformation, shown in red, is a vertical translation 5 units up the y-axis. By doing this, it changes the function into y=|x|+5. The next transformation, in blue, is a horizontal translation to the right on the x-axis by 8 units. This turns the function into y=|x-8|. Illustrated in green, y=|x-8|+2, shows an example of a combination of both types of transformations. A horizontal 8 units to the right and a vertical shift 2 units up. Furthermore, illustrated in purple, y=-|x|, shows the function reflected across the x-axis. Lastly, in black again, portrays all three types of transformations. A reflection across the x-axis, a horizontal shift 6 units right, and a vertical shift 2 units down resulting in y=-|x-6|-2.

3-D Graph



For my 3-D project, I built model of a 3-D coordinate system. The coordinate system consisted of 8 parts:
  • (x,y,z)
  • (-x,y,z)
  • (x,-y,z)
  • (-x,-y,z)
  • (-x,-y,-z)
  • (x,-y,-z)
  • (x,y,-z)
  • (-x,y,-z)
Our group chose the equation 3x+4y+2z=12. Since I had Section 4: (-x,-y,-z), I had to convert the original equation by plugging-in the negatives. So my new equation would be: -3x-4y-2z=12. In order to graph this, I had to find the x, y, and z-intercepts. To find this, I plug in zero, and solve for one of the variables. Then do the same for the others. The intercepts were: (-4,0,0),(0,-3,0),(0,0,-6).
After I was done with my part. Our group put together each section according to the system and it turned out like this.

Guess Who? Sharmane "Sine"

I'm a freshman at Oakland High School. And i have went to Edna Brewer Middle School and Bella Vista Elementary. And to those who don't know, I'm Filipino.
Recently I joined this program called AYPAL, which is an organization that basically helps stride toward helping our community and making a better, more equal future.
Also when I was in Edna Brewer I was an I.W.E. and helped around the school, and volunteered working in the cafeteria. Honestly, I'm not quite sure yet on what i want to be when i grow up. I think that it's still the time to learn from our mistakes until we reach and find what we truly want to be when we grow up. Happy. (:
Things I enjoy doing are drawing, listening to music, trying new things, facebook, and... eating.

Ch1 Real World Functions


For our real world function, my partner Christine and I chose 1st period classes in Ms.Abernethy's 3rd period Algebra2 class. By doing this, we found out 1st period classes of 9th graders in Ms. Abernethy's 3rd period class. Listed down their Name, Subject, and Teacher for their first period. Our independent variable are the students. Our dependent variable are their teachers for 1st period. For our Domain, we used the 9th grade students names. {Christine, Sharmane, MinYing}. For the Range, we used the teachers for their 1st period classes. {Ms.Gao, Ms.Citragno, Mr.Tam}. For this to be a function, only one student can have one teacher for 1st period. For example, Christine has only Ms.Gao's science class for first period. For this NOT to be a function, one student would have more than one class for 1st period. For example, the counselor messed up Christine's schedule and she'd have both Ms.Gao AND Mr.Tam for 1st period. This will not work out because she wouldn't know which class to go to.

To test if this is correct, we used the vertical-line test on the graph. If there are two points or more for one student (the vertical line), then the relation is NOT a function.
