Ch 6 Project


For this project, I found the the opening values for my stock Urban Outfitters Inc. and it's index, NASDAQ for January 5 of the years 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003 & 2004. Next, I used my graphing calculator to insert the prices to find the best correlation coefficient that was closest to one. I tried a cubic and quartic model. The quartic regression was the best for my polynomial model. With that polynomial model, I inserted the years 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010 & 2011 to predict the prices for those years. I found the opening values for the index NASDAQ and repeated the last step. My predictions didn't match the actual opening prices, but some were close. I used the internet to research information of my stock to find out the causes of the changes in my stock and index.







2002- Since the 9/11 attack, a lot of devastated families had to rebuild a lot of their finances back up so they didn't have enough money to spend on clothes. There was a decrease in NASDAQ because a lot of stock holders were frightened to put money in after the 9/11 disaster.

2005- In 2005, tax increased to 8.25% which made the price for clothing more expensive. NASDAQ increased due to a higher tax rate which increased both stock and index.

2008- In 2008, the value decreased because there was at least 20,000 layoffs that year. NASDAQ index increased due to the many other trading companies it is connected with.

2010-2011- The predictions for both are off because a lot of events could of happened to affect how much each index and stock would increase.

3D Graph
















For this project, I built a model of a linear equation in three dimensions. The equation that my group and I chose was 3x+4y+2z=12. The ordered triple that I had to do was (-x, y, -z). So the equation then became -3x+4y-2z=12. In order to graph it I had to find the x, y, and z intercepts. To find the intercepts, I plugged in zero to solve for one variable and repeat for the remaining variables. The intercepts I found were (-4,0,0) , (0,3,0) , & (0,0,-6). I plotted and connected my points and ended up with a 3D plane.

Ch 3.4 Linear Programming



For my chapter 3. 4 project, I created my own word problem. My problem is: Charlie is planning a green rood that will cover up to 800 square feet. He will use two types of flowers: white fressia and purple fressia. Each white fressia will cover up 2 square feet. Each purple fressia will cover 4 square feet. Each plant costs $4.00 and Charlie can only spend $1000. Write the constraints and graph the feasible region.

Let: w= the number of white fressia and
p=the number of purple fressia

My constraints are:
1) w is greater than or equal to 0
2) p is greater than or equal to 0
3)2w+4p is less than or equal to 800 but when simplified is p is less than or equal to -1/2w+200
4) 4w+4p is less than or equal to 1000 but when simplified is p is less than or equal to -1w+250

On the picture above, my first constraint is black. My second constraint is blue. My third constraint is green. My fourth constraint is purple. My fifth constraint is all of the constraints combined to create a feasible region which is pink. My vertices are (0,0); (0,200): (100,150); and (250,0).

CH 2. Project- Nissan GTR



Nissan GTR

For the chapter 2 project, I did it on the Nissan GTR. I used the speeds 55,60,65,70,75, and 80 the mileage (miles per gallon) are 21,20.4,19.3,17.4,16.2, and 15.1. Next, I plotted the points of a graph. For the independent variable, it was speed (miles per hour) and for the dependent variable, it was mileage (miles per gallon). As I graphed the data, it started to become a negative correlation. Then I drew the line of best fit and to find the slope, I used the two points (55,21) and (80,15.1). The slope I found was -5.9/35. When I used the point slope form, I found the equation y=-5.9x/35+11.73. When I used a graphing calculator to find the value of my graph's correlation coefficient of r was -.99 . The value of r tells us that the higher the speed is, the lower the mileage. The line of best fit equation I found with the calculator is y=-.25x+35.2. To predict the mileage for a speed of 55 miles per hour would be 21.45. To predict the speed if the mileage is 28 miles per gallon would be 28.8.

Ch. 1: Real World Functions.


My real world function was about the different types of tacos and their prices. My partner for this project was Donald. My dependent variable was the price of the taco. My independent variable was the type of taco. The domain was the type of taco and the range was the price of the tacos. Our function worked when there was only one type of taco with one price. Our function becomes a relation when someone orders two of the same tacos which increases the price(output) but is still the same taco(input). We determined if the graphs were a function when we used the vertical line test. If more than one point passes through the vertical line test then the function is a relation.

Ch 1: Graphing Fuctions

First thing I did was draw the function y=3√x (Square root). Then I drew a reflection across the y-axis, making the function y=-3√x (square root) in purple. Then I drew a vertical translation which moves the equation 3 units up in red and the equation was y=3√x+3. Then I drew a horizontal translation in blue, moving the function 4 units to the left along the x-axis and the equation was y=(√x=4)3 (exponent). Then I drew out a vertical and horizontal translation moving 4 units left and 3 units up in green, and the equation was y=(√x=4)3 (exponent) + 3. Last function I drew was a transformation in black by using vertical and horizontal translation then the reflection across the x-axis to reflect the original function across the x-axis then moving it 4 units left and 3 units down. The equation was y= -(√x+4)3 (exponent).

Eva Radical

My name is Eva Radical. This is my second year at Oakland High. I attended Cleveland Elementary and Edna Brewer Middle School. I worked for McCullum Youth Court and I work for Coro Youth Exploring Leadership Program. When I grow up, I want to be a nurse in the Neo-native Intensive Care Unit (NICU) because I love kids and children. My hobbies are shopping, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.
